In 1884, Master Cutler Karl Elsener started his cutlery factory in the small village of Ibach, Switzerland. In 1897, he crafted the Victorinox Original Swiss Army Knife. Since that time, the Elsener Family has continued to craft tools in the Victorinox tradition of precision, durability and quality.

Forschner by Victorinox is one of the largest producers of cutlery in the world today. You may already be familiar with Victorinox Cutlery, it was distributed exclusively in the United States to butchers and culinary professionals since 1884 under the brand name R.H. Forschner. In recent years it goes under its formally known European name of Victorinox Swiss Army. Either Rosewood handle or its patented Victorinox Fibrox handle, this is a world class brand of knives.

What is NSF? A Stampled Knife is cut into a shape from a cold rolled piece of steel and then ground, tempered, and sharpened. It requires many less steps than forging and results in a lighter, narrower blade. Stamped knives are easier to produce and therefore less expensive. They perform very well and can approach the quality of a forged blade (but not the weight or feel). A stamped knife can usually be identified by the absence of a bolster. Where are Victorinox knives made? Victorinox is the largest knife manufacturer in Europe and is located in Ibach, Switzerland. All Victorinox stamped Blades are manufactured in Switzerland. The exclusive forged range offers a unique partnership, whereby the knife is forged in Solingen, Germany (the heartland of hot drop forged cutlery) and is finished in Switzerland, including all quality control, polishing, and the famous Victorinox factory edge. This delivers the utmost quality product possible.
What is NSF? It stands for the National Sanitary Foundation and is a seal of quality assurance. It is used primarily in the commercial environment and is on all stamped blades made by Victorinox. All fibrox handles of Victorinox are NSF approved.
What are the different edges and what do they do? The Victorinox Chef knives come with a straight or fine edge. This means it has a perfect taper along the blade and no serrations. What does "Stainless" mean?

The term or the declaration "stainless" means the object in question is made of high alloyed steel. Products manufactured using high alloyed steel have a high resistance to corrosion.

The terms "stainless" or "inox" is thus only partly true. If stainless steel products are not cleaned over a long period of time, aggressive substances (fruit acids, salt water etc.) are able to act on (corrode) the material.

We recommend the following care tips:

After use, wash table and kitchen knives under running water! If knives are left uncleaned for longer periods of time with saliferous or acidic leftovers on them, stains can develop.
All household knives with plastic handles can be washed in the dishwasher. Also here, rinsing is recommended. In addition, make sure that the dishwasher is opened momentarily after cleaning. The hot water vapor and water condensation can also be responsible for stains and corrosion on the blades (crevice corrosion).
Stains can occur when aggressive or too much detergent is used.

Victorinox AG guarantees all knives and tools to be of first class stainless steel and also guarantees a life time against any defects in material and workmanship (save for electronic components 2 years). Damage caused by normal wear and tear, misuse or abuse are not covered by this guarantee.
