The blade has an extremely sharp cutting edge. It is made out of Japanese SG2 Mirco Carbide power stainless steel, which is enveloped by 100 layers of alternating hard and soft steel. The powdered steel contains a high percentage of carbide, and has an unprecedented hardness of approximately 63 Rockwell. Powdered steel is use because it is has a high purity, and is very homogeneous. Tempered correctly, this combination can result in an exceptionally sharp, and long lasting cutting edge. As the entire blade is carefully ground, the 101 layers are cut through, exposing the beautiful Damascus layering.
